Furgo exists for one reason: to make it easy for South Africans to find a healthy, well-raised dog or cat from a breeder who genuinely cares. We are a breed and breeder registry that brings together everything a prospective pet parent needs, detailed breed information, a directory of registered breeders across the country, and available litters, all in one trustworthy place.
Our mission
We love dogs and cats, and we love the remarkable variety of breeds that share our homes and our lives. But we also know how hard it can be to tell a caring, responsible breeder apart from a backyard operation. That uncertainty is exactly what Furgo was built to solve. By putting ethical, registered breeders front and centre, we help good breeders be found and we help buyers avoid the heartbreak and cost that so often come from an impulse purchase.
Why registered breeders matter
A registered breeder is accountable. They breed to recognised standards, they health-test their animals, they raise litters in a home environment, and they care about where their puppies and kittens end up. Backyard breeding, by contrast, prioritises volume over welfare, and it is a leading cause of hereditary illness, poor temperament, and the overcrowding of shelters. Every time a family chooses a registered breeder, they are voting for a kinder system. Furgo makes that choice the easy one.
How Furgo works, for pet parents
Start by exploring our breed browsers for dogs and cats, where you can filter by size, temperament, energy level, grooming needs and more to find the breed that suits your home. When you know what you are looking for, browse our directory of registered breeders by breed and province, view their profiles, and reach out to them directly. If you would like a little guidance, our Find A Friend tool helps match you to breeds and breeders based on your lifestyle.
How Furgo works, for breeders
If you are a registered breeder who loves your breed and does right by your animals, Furgo is where the right families will find you. A Furgo listing puts your kennel or cattery in front of serious, informed buyers, showcases your available litters, and signals that you belong to a network built on trust and ethical practice. We would love to have you.
Our stand against backyard breeding
We will always champion the breeders who do it properly, and we will always steer buyers away from those who do not. It is that simple. A stronger community of registered breeders means healthier animals, better-informed owners, and fewer dogs and cats surrendered to shelters. That is the future we are working towards, one happy match at a time.
